New Nebraskans
In Collaboration with Justice For Our Neighbors-NE, Omaha Public Schools, the Refugee Empowerment Center and the Intercultural Senior Center, Watie White Studio designed and implemented a series of monumental portraits of refugees and immigrants who had recently become new citizens of Nebraska, each based upon interviews conducted by Watie White. In each example, Watie White could create a woodcut portrait of the model before organizing hundreds of community volunteers: professional men in suits, business leaders, political officials, families, school administrators, press, all organized in order to paint in the portrait of a model well aware of the challenging social climate of Omaha, Nebraska.
